blogging geek celebrate

Links – See mine, share yours

I don’t know if you noticed, but typing into your browser will bring you here directly!  This little update is absolutely thrilling to me because it makes it 9 letters easier to type and 3 syllables faster to say.

It helps to have a shorter URL because most people try to run away when I tell them about my blog.

It's RARASAUR.COM, little ChiChi.
It’s R – A – R – A – S – A – U- R – dot COM, little ChiChi.  Why are you so afraid of blogs?

My shortened domain name was Dave’s gift to me at 3000 readers, and recently I clicked right past that milestone and hit 4000.

I love thinking about how that means I’ve celebrated at least 4000 times since opening this blog.

Me, every time someone hits that follow button. It's like Charles Schulz drew my soul.
Me, every time someone hits that follow button. It’s like Charles Schulz drew my soul.

For those interested in the technical details, I didn’t actually buy the premium service at WordPress, though I hear it’s fabulous.

All we did was buy a $10 domain over at GoDaddy and forwarded it here.  In non-geek-speak, that means my website is still  As you navigate the pages, you’ll still see up in your browser header. is just a shortcut to my homepage– which for me, and my non-professional blog, is more than enough.

In fact, it’s pretty wonderful.

Just like you.

Thank you— for making this such a welcoming community that people are still joining us here.  Every time I celebrate a new reader, please know that I also give thanks to you for your wisdom, wit, and warmth.

Just in case someone doesn’t know you yet, though…

Leave the link to your blog or website in the comments.

A specific post is even better than a homepage.  Your favorite post is better than a recent one.  Then buzz around— visit some friends and send some rawr love their way.

    1. It’s AMAZING to have! I thought for sure we’d have to get rarasaurdinosaur1289809 or something, haha, 😀

Mercifully short is appreciated for new readers, though I’ve always enjoyed your longer posts too.

(And for the geeks amongst us, FYI, Randall’s blog has probably the most appropriately-geek response that I’ve read in regards to Affleck as Batman– because geeks give everyone a chance. Poke around for it.)

    1. It’s perfect! A wonderful example of the breadth of your writing style, and your ability to sink into a moment… plus, the pictures are awesome. 😀

    1. Emily at TheWaiting blog ( – which is a great blog to follow if you don’t already) does a link up on FB fairly regularly, too. I’ve seen a few others do something similar on their blogs, or twitter, or FB, but she was the first who motivated me to participate… now I’m addicted to all the various link parties in the universe. 😀

I love that post. I’ve already emailed it to several of my favorite nerd girls. 😀

  1. That’s a really good way to shorten your blog name at low cost. Full blog names can be a bit of a mouthful!
Congratulations on the big 4K 🙂
I don’t have a favourite post on my blog because it’s such a weird mixture of everything. Sigh.

    1. It’s an awesome logo, and so wonderfully branded to your other logo, too– super cool! 😀 I like the upgrade, it looks great! 🙂 And now I’ve just added to shows I need to watch, since I haven’t seen Orphan Black yet, but you’ve sold me on it! 🙂

    1. Woot! It’s out! Congrats! 😀

(And, FYI, for those who don’t know… way before I had even a tenth of these readers, Misha’s support and encouragement got me through an angry email that almost put me off blogging– and he gave me the confidence to embark on my first (but certainly not last) crazy blog escapade. I enlisted his help, and instead of ignoring me– he did exactly as I asked even though it interfered with a big important day of his. In other words, ignore the Scrooge picture on his sidebar… he’s a softie. 🙂 Also, I read his last book three times because it’s great… so definitely check out Cannibal Hearts and Catskinner’s Book.)

    1. Thank you! 😀 What a great post– perfect for this crowd. I’d like to think most of my readers are popularity-resistant, deep-breathing, peace-seeking authentics! 🙂 Do you participate in Bloggers4Peace ( There’s many in that group who share your passion. 🙂

  2. I don’t always write about death and loss.
    I don’t.

I just do some of my best work while contemplating death and umm,

They’re my muses. They picked me. I didn’t pick them.

Rarasaur, you RAWK. I don’t know how you manage to be so genuine, so really there for so many people. You are amazing. You are the Blogging Bodhisattva.

    1. Thank you!! And thank you so much for the emailed dino picture *hugs* it made my night. 🙂 Death and loss are powerful muses and not everyone captures their whole spirit so well as you do– you rawrk too! 😀 Thanks for sharing your links!

    1. Well, you’re managing two blogs too! I have the other blog, but Dave helps with it and most of those posts are scheduled– you have your hands full! 😀

(Sue’s other blog, FYI, where she regularly and awesomely participates in my Prompts for the Promptless is : She just wrote a great post about essence of successful blogging.)

  3. Congrats again Rara! You have so many readers, I am so envious! It’s good to have a domain of your own, I debated to have my own too and decided that with the 3 more syllabus and 9 more letters is way too clumsy! It’s thrilling to have some significant and much celebrated milestones like this for your blog! Here is a post of mine that I had written 2 days ago which I think will be interesting for your readers:

  4. That is a huge milestone, Rara! Congrats! & Snoopy always makes me smile by the way. If you ever sense that I’m sad, just send me a picture of Snoopy. 😛

A lot of you know me here, but for those of you that don’t, here is a link to one of my recent & new favorite posts:
The Tiny Adventure of the Moon
It is a children’s story I wrote and illustrated and chose to share for free. Stop by and let me know what you think. 🙂

    1. Oh I’m so glad you decided to share that one, it’s one of my favorite posts ever. 🙂 You can count on me to remember Snoopy, my friend. 😀

      *hugs* Thank you!!

    1. 😀 Well, if someone already owned Rarasaur, I would have relied on you guys to help me draft the perfect letter of persuasion to convince them to give it to me for free. 😉 😀

Yay for the link– thank you for congrats and for playing along! 😀

  5. I learn so much on your site Rara as well as enjoying none technical posts. Thanks a million. The post I would like to share is not necessarily my favourite but it highlights a cause close to my heart. Bone marrow donation. Any excuse to encourage people to consider becoming a donor. It is so simple and yet can save a life, how many can say they did that in their life?
My friends 13yr old has leukemia here in Ireland. We could find no match here, but on the worldwide list they found a twenty one year old girl in America who had decided to go on the list. We have no idea what prompted one so young to be so selfless, nor do we know who she is. It was a 10/10 match. Can you believe it? A stranger being such a good match!. He is currently recovering (slowly) from his transplant.
This was a post I did when I had to say Good bye to his mum. We are great friends and would not be together again for months.
    Thanks again Rara.

    1. Beautiful! Bone marrow transplants also saved the life of my nephew, so I know how valuable it is and how wonderful of a gift it is to give. Thank you for shining light on such a wonderful and important cause.

        1. It wasn’t easy, but it did the trick… and now it’s like it never even happened. I’ll be thinking good thoughts for your friend… and you, so she can lean on your strength! 🙂

    1. Yay! Haha “knew me when”… it’s the same ol’ me and same ol’ posts around here, there’s just more of us chatting at the bottom now. 🙂 Thanks for linking up, 😀 and thanks for being around since the very very beginning!! *hugs*

  6. WTG Rara – congratulations on 4K! Also for having an awesome blog that embraces community. Your heart is bigger than the moon!
I notice there’s not many travel posts so far so here’s my contribution – about Yangon, Myanmar and the breathtaking Shwedagon Pagoda, truly one of the great wonders of the world, and one of my best posts so far.
Thank you dear one for bringing us all together

    1. Thank you Alison!! 😀 Community is probably my favorite part of blogging. 😀 I’m so glad you added to the travel diversity! 🙂

      Oh, and happy birthday!!! *hugs*

  7. I’ve nominated you for some awards. You inspire me to be a better blogger. If your blog is an Award Free Blog, please accept my well-meaning thoughts and appreciation for the great job that you do. Thanks!

    1. Thank you Paula! 😀 I loved this post… after recent life experiences, I identify with it more than I would have several years ago, which makes it more special to me. *hugs* Thanks for simplifying patience and peace! 🙂

  8. Congrats! I don’t have a favorite post. I usually forget what I even posted within about 24 hours after posting. I think I like reading other blogs better than writing anyway *giggle*. I love the name of this blog, so original!

  9. I once wrote a guest post on THIS VERY SITE, so everyone should already be well familiar with me! And if they’re not, as I like to say, “They were slow and dimwitted. Leave them!”

But since I’m feeling nice, here’s the link anyway:

On the subject of URLs and URL forwarding, at my old company, a couple of people got really hung up on the whole redirection thing, saying that they wanted to keep the same URL throughout the site. My boss eventually had to take them to some popular sites and show them that in many cases, they’re getting redirected all over the place and probably didn’t even notice.

  10. Congrats!!! I saw you mentioned Emily’s link-up parties earlier, and that’s how I found YOU! I thought I would post a link to something a little different in case reading all these awesome blog posts is starting to feel like an English homework assignment. Here’s a music video I made with my husband and kids about our minivan. It’s so suburban:

        1. 😀 My messes are the stuff of legend. I somehow manage to move around everything we own to do anything at all. And then I get “creative”, and that’s when the problems really start…

but I understand a husband being blog-resistant. It’s really like a second relationship, isn’t it!

  11. Love the heart diagram – it reminds me of a family tree! And since I’m one of the hearts we are now part of the same family! So exciting! I’m not going to link to a particular post ’cause I like most of my posts, but thanks for the opportunity.

  12. Hey, all right, permission for a shameless plug (Rara to the resuce of removing shame from plugging one’s own blog and bringing together community! Two green Rara dinsosaur hearts for you!). My blog,

When you get there, be sure to tell ’em Spider Man [] sent you. 😀

  13. 4000!!! You rock, Rara. Congratulations. What a wonderful and thoughtful gift from the blog ninja, but I wouldn’t expect anything less. The most impressive thing about all those followers is that you got them with integrity. I can’t wait to see the zeros double every year. {{{hugs}}} Kozo

  14. Hi Rara, thanks for the recent visits its been good to see you. I was thinking about your followers reaching 4000 and thinking ‘wow, I wonder how many years I will have to blog to have that many followers?’ and I realised that at my current rate of acquisition, assuming I lost no followers along the way, I should reach that magic figure in around… 30 years! 😦 On the brighter side, I did just pass three thousand views. Oh well, it’s all relative. Here is my link: I’m not sure if it is my favourite, but it is certainly one of them, even if for the nostalgia alone. 🙂

  15. Awwwww, congrats, Rara! The day I bought my URL was a special day for me too. It made me feel like I was finally committed to this whole blogging thing. It was pretty much the day I married my blog. (That is less bizarre than it sounds, I promise.)

    1. Haha, nope… I’m not a camping person at all. I had to go once in the 6th grade and no one has been able to drag me back since. 😀 Thanks for linkin’ up!

    1. What a great gift! It’s such a nice feeling to just own it. 😀 Also, also– I love the post you shared, I know I’ve read it several times, I can’t believe I didn’t even comment on it– I probably panicked about saying the wrong thing. 🙂 Thanks for everything, Jessie. 🙂
