Dear me, I love you.

Dear Rara,

I love you.  In case you forget, here’s why:

  1. Good people — no… great people– find their way to you.  You’ve met amazing people while visiting random internet chatrooms, building bonfires at the beach, taking out the trash, working for Very Important Companies, blogging, and buying cereal. It doesn’t seem to matter where you go: you bump into heroes, warriors, scholars, geniuses, artists, helpers, wanderers, and wonderers.  It’s basically a super power.
  2. Your sense of humor is as vast as a dinosaur.  You’ve laughed so hard that you’ve fallen off chairs, stadiums, trampolines, and treehouses. You’ve laughed so loudly that you’ve woken up babies, startled strangers, and terrified tourists.  You’ve laughed at puns, the smashing of watermelons, morbid and obscene humor, philosojokes, absurdist novels, running gags, and even poop jokes.
  3. You are not afraid to learn new things, or more things, or scary things– even if it means tons of research, reading, and classes.
  4. You’re smart — scary smart — but you find ways to make people comfortable with it.
  5. You are brave.  Even when it it surprises you, and especially when it surprises everyone around you.
  6. For every one item on this list, you could write 50 items about every person you know, and 100 about every person you love. Rawr on.

xo,
Rara

Love letters to yourself are going around.  I figured if I could write a list of can’ts, I can write a list of loves.  Here are some others, including the lovely Daile’s– whose pursuit of happiness inspired this wonderful craze.

Tip of My Tongue – Jennie Saia
The Pursuit of Paulsen – Katie
Katie Beee – Kate

          1. I need more awesome folk. I need a whole army. I’m feeling vulnerable today and so I think I shall surround myself with people who today are braver than me, stronger, and better equipped to beat the world away from my fragile self. I’m recruiting you, along with most of my WordPress family 😀

  2. All of these and so much more are the reasons you’re everyone’s favorite dinosaur. 🙂 (I tried to make that rhyme, but I’m not sure if it worked, haha!)

I love that I know how to love, and I love that I recognize the people who need it the most.

  4. I love my tenacity. It was once said the difference between a writer and an author is an author never gives up. I have been tempted many times to chuck it all, but I still come back no matter how hard. Rara you are an inspiration. You should love the person we all love as well.

    1. John, thank you for your kind words and I heart your reason!! And though I absolutely 100% believe that determination is one of your guiding traits, I actually love you most for your ability to find commonality with everyone you stumble across– even if it means being a little deep, or a little silly. You are the center point of a community, and I admire that. 🙂

  5. I’ve never felt comfortable expressing my true feelings, so I may have to go on living without ever knowing how I really feel about myself. 🙂
So I respect you even more for coming clean with your feelings. 🙂

    1. Haha, but… but… but, you’re the KING of lists! It barely makes it like a love letter at all. 🙂

Anyway, I love you for your ability to say what needs to be said, all the while making people smile and laugh as they really *listen*. I see it in SO many of the comments you leave. I often think how much better our world would be served if more authority figures had your gift. 🙂

    1. 🙂 That would be awesome, I’d love to see your list. 🙂 And Tess, I loved you since I read your post (or page, maybe?) about rocking in life instead of in a chair– you live up to that every day as I see you around the ‘sphere– being fierce, and lovely, and awesome!

    1. 🙂 Yay! I’d love to see you do this. You deserve a love letter from yourself. 🙂 I love you, chica, because you are always so fierce and so brave– and I know I’ve told you that before. The things you’ve live, yes, you’re brave in the face of those… but I mean, you look at yourself in and make the changes that need to be made. Fripperies fly away, but you are who you are– and you try to even hold yourself to those guidelines. And you do, so much, that I recognize you no matter what your blog is called or what color it is. 😉 🙂

    1. 😀 Haha! Yay! Well, Ross, I love your contagious, Godzilla-sized sense of humor. I know I said I laugh at everything, and that’s true– but you have a talent for translating humor through writing, and finding the funny in everything, and making it the sort of funny that creates a whirlwind of more humor in the world. It’s rare when I don’t read an entire of your posts out loud to Dave.

But I so rarely comment because all your readers are hysterical… and I’d say something reductive like, “HA!” 😉 Still, be assured, I am reading, and I am ha’ing. 😀

You made me smile thinking of Gallagher smashing watermelons and the band smashing pumpkins at the same time.
