blogging: an update

On June 8th, I had a mini stroke (a transient ischemic attack). Since then, I’ve had two more while at hospitals. Now that I know the signs, it’s possible/likely I had a couple before the one on the 8th. We think it’s under control now, but there are some cumulative consequences.

The most significant is, I temporarily can’t read fluidly. I have to drag my fingers under the letters and sound them out.

(And no, I don’t know why I can type out these thoughts, but can’t read them back without migraines and brain itchiness. Honestly, writing is pretty painful, too, but a lot of that has to do with the constant search for words and punctuation.)

I have decided to dip my toe back into working with words by writing a paragraph or two, in a newsletter format. I’ll be sending it out fairly regularly– every Monday and Friday for the next month. I know that’s a lot, and there will definitely be errors and no theme, so I don’t expect you to subscribe there– but I wanted to welcome anyone who might be interested.

I’m choosing a newsletter over my beloved WordPress format because I’m too tempted to go back and read what I post, or read comments. The newsletter makes it easier to send it into the abyss and not worry about anything except that it is written.

First one goes out tomorrow.

Wish me luck.

  1. So sucks, sorry ❤

I have tried to sign up for the newsletter but I ended up in an endless loop of trying to prove I am a human and well, I'm not convinced I am and neither are they. I'd really like to sign up.

  2. I am just seeing this now but sending you heartfelt wishes for feeling better, for unlocking something new, something sturdier and more complex, in the midst of challenge. It’s something you’ve been asked to do too often and yet you rise. (Wanted to quote Maya Angelou here but enough for you to know your words and living remind me of her words, “I Rise”)

  3. it’s always so shocking to hear of a young person having a stroke or TIA, it seems so wrong and unexpected. A friend, also young, had a full stroke a few years ago, and has worked so hard to get herself back. She’s about 98% there. You can do this. I know you’re strong. Sending love ❤

  4. So sorry to hear you are sick, but happy you have decided to tackle the challenge head on. Praying for your swift healing and wishing you great success with the recovery work. Write on, and don’t worry about your readers. The important thing is you getting better.

  5. In my prayer for you, I came across this word:

    Acts of the Apostles 9:33–34
There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been confined to bed for eight years, for he was paralyzed. Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your bed.” He got up at once.

Praying swift healing for you too, Rara.

  6. Sooooo … tada! Yeah, I’m late to the party but in the end am here. No words, just feeling. I hope you feel it as I send it. Thank you for your words and know that I cherish each one. Even as they are offered through brain itchiness, they inspire me and make me dip my head, that I am not putting quill to papyrus as much as I should. You’ll likely see my updated email address as a subscriber (am switching away from the monster called Google), but it’s me, your favorite starvingactivist ❤
