Like Peas in a Pod

Ma and I are very different,
(That’s what lots of strangers think.)
Cuz I was born in shades of brown,
and she was born in pink.

Ma and I are very different
says people who should know.
Cuz my skin gets real dark in summer,
and hers is always snow.

But Ma and I know we’re alike,
if you can look past hue:
cuz she likes her peas with mayonnaise
and, truly, I do too.

Résumé

I can make a paper frog, capable of flips!
And I can make a curry, so hot it burns your lips.
I can make a song up,
or even make a dress.

But best of everything in all,
I can make a mess.

Family

Sometimes my family
ain’t easy on me.
They love in peculiar ways.
Figuring out
what they’re all about,
is like sleuthing an intricate maze.

Sometimes my family
ain’t easy on me.
They talk like I’m made of lead.
They say all the strife
in my whole life
exists only in my head.

Sometimes my family
ain’t easy on me.
They think I’m an oak, not a stem.
And the worst of it all,
is how I still have the gall
to not be real easy on them.

I couldn’t think of anything to write today so instead I’m sharing some kidsy-ish poems I’ve written recently. What do you think?
