Some days are hits, and some days are misses, and today was a little bit of both.
Some hits are the crack of a baseball against a bat, and some hits are a slap a universe gives your face, to see if you’re still alive.
The good news is, I’m still alive.
Sometimes a miss is the whoosh of air an opportunity breathes as it slips by you, and sometimes a miss is a heart-filling that pangs a beat to your bones and writes the morse code of the story of everything you’ve ever loved.
The good news is, I have spent all my life in love.
I am riddled with code; bones so pressed with story, I walk like a keyboard sings. My jaw is kiss-lifted, my cheekbones, in perpetual auntie-pinch. I blink like ocarina whistle.
“Que hermosa,” Mamasaur says, when she looks at me, no matter what type of day I’m having. This story, this two-word story, is written in my skull, making me an instrument of its own making.
Today was a little bit of a hit. As the slap came down, as the cool fingers of the universe cracked against my face, my heart-fillings pushed back with the vibrations of my every love.
I am buffered in chord, shrouded in song.
I am never out of tune.
